Wanting to Adopt - Texas Christian Adoptions

You and your family may wish to adopt for various reasons. Whether you have experienced infertility, have had a life-long desire to adopt, or are an adoptee yourself, Texas Christian Adoptions will explain the process and walk with you through this exciting journey.

As a Christian agency, we work with birthmothers who desire a Christian home for their child. Texas Christian Adoptions upholds the biblical definition of family and the sanctity of life beginning at conception.

Mission Statement

Jesus Christ is both God and man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. According to the Scriptures, He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, arose bodily from the dead, and ascended into heaven, where He is at the right hand of God.

He is our Lord and Savior. We believe that the Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God and the final authority for all Christian faith and life.

We believe that each individual must believe in Jesus Christ and be renewed through faith in His Holy Spirit for the salvation of all humanity.

We believe all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of immeasurable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death.

We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.

The Adoption Process

Understanding the process is critical to preparing for this journey. We will assist you every step of the day.

1. Meet with a Texas Christian Adoptions Counselor

Discuss your expectations of the process and the child you envision within your family. Please ask about our current status; there may be wait lists or a pause in new applications because of waiting families.

2. Request an Application

If you decide that Texas Christian Adoptions is the agency you would like to help you with your adoption journey, please request an application.

Once the application and Pre-Adoptive Screening Evaluation are completed, you can return them to the agency and pay the $2,500.00 application fee. Be sure to make a copy of your documents for the social worker performing your home study.

The Pre-Adoptive Screening Evaluation includes:

Detailed autobiographies of each adoptive parent and a recent family photo
Current physical of all persons living in your home to verify their physical, mental, and emotional status
The first page of your most recent tax return and most recent employer paycheck stub to verify your family’s financial stability
Health insurance information
- Please copy your insurance cards (front and back) and send them with the other documents. This confirms that your medical insurance will cover the child. A copy of your current automobile insurance is helpful so we know you have coverage.
References from three friends (non-family members) who have known you personally for at least ten years
One Shutterfly hardcover 8×11 Photo Book, which includes:
- A “Dear Birthmother” letter
- A profile of each of you
- Current pictures of you, your family members, and photographs of your home (including the front and back yards)
- Please include five hard card stock flyers summarizing your book. This way, interested birth parents can take the flyer, not your book!
Copies of both driver’s licenses and birth certificates (or current passports)
Marriage certificate (if applicable) and divorce/death certificate (if applicable)
Divorce/death certificate (if applicable)
Proof of current pet vaccinations on all animals living in your home
A blueprint or drawing of your home with the dimensions and purposes of all rooms (bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, closets, bathrooms, etc.)
- Please identify indoor areas for children’s use (i.e., playroom) as the state requires.

3. Complete Criminal History and Fingerprint Check

The agency will run a required criminal history check using the information in the application.

Following those checks, you will receive an email indicating it’s time to schedule your FBI fingerprint check. At this point, you can schedule an appointment to perform your FBI check.

4. Baby-Proof Your Home Before the Home Study

Add locks to doors leading to a water area (pool, fountain, pond, etc.). You should also add plug protectors and other tools that protect a child.

5. Undergo a Pre-Adoptive Home Screening (Home Study)

6. Obtain an HSEG and picture After Your Selection by the Birth Parents

You’ll need a copy of their Health, Social, Educational, and Genetic History Report (HSEG) and a picture of one or both.

If you feel comfortable with the birth parent(s)’s HSEG, we can set up a meeting. If you and the birth parent(s) agree to the match, the next step is to solidify it by submitting the adoption contract and fee to Texas Christian Adoptions.
Families can prepare for the baby by attending the required Basic Infant Care and Safety Training Class at a local hospital. Your completion certificate will go in your file.
We recommend meeting with the birth parent(s) at least once a month to establish a connection. This will make the labor and delivery experience at the hospital much more comfortable for both parties.
Once your birth mother feels like she is in labor, a Counselor will contact you. All parties follow the birth mother’s instructions for the hospital and the established plan agreed upon by all.
Texas Christian Adoptions’ Counselor will be at the hospital to support all parties. Once the child is born and 48 hours have passed, the agency will obtain the birth parents’

7. Complete your next steps

Undergo a six to eight-month evaluation by Texas Christian Adoptions until finalization is obtained, which includes monthly post-placement adoptive screenings.
Undergo a six-month evaluation by Texas Christian Adoptions, which involves five monthly post-placement adoptive screenings. During this time, you may contact an attorney regarding the adoption’s finalization (recommendations are available upon request).
- You may also select an accredited adoption attorney of your choice. Texas law states that the child must live in your home for six months before finalization.
